Money Raised
|
The CharitiesThe aim of the Plymouth to Banjul challenge is to raise money for Gambian charities by auctioning all the cars which make it to The Gambia. Aside from this Team Lodge Losers are raising money through sponsorship for an additional two charities. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is particularly close to our hearts as a close friend of ours is a CF sufferer. The other charity, Sunshine International, is one which Carl’s father is heavily involved with. Through your generous support we hope to benefit these very worthwhile charities. The expenses of the trip will be met by ourselves and our generous fuel sponsor, Abbey Group. Therefore any money donated will be split equally between the two charities. You can support the work of these two incredibly important charities by sponsoring us using one of the following options:

Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening, inherited disease and affects more than 7500 babies, children and young adults. Symptoms can include poor weight gain, troublesome coughs, repeated chest infections, salty sweat and abnormal stools. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus. At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it. One of the main objectives of the CF Trust is to fund this work. People with CF are living longer than ever before. Until the 1930s, the life expectancy of a baby with CF was only a few months. Today the average life expectancy for someone with CF is around 31 years. For more information on CF please visit
The Sunshine project was founded in response to the desperate need of abandoned, orphaned and needy children in Egypt. The idea for Sunshine began in 1992 with the dream of one lady - Pearl Smith. Most of the children arrive as babies, commonly wrapped in pieces of rag and in desperate need of love and care. At Sunshine the child has a home for life; it will be their choice if and when they want to branch out on their own. The committed team of workers and trustees become the child's extended and loving family for the rest of their lives. With this start and with your help, we believe that they will overcome all the challenges that life may throw at them. Eventually we hope they will change attitudes and shape the future development of Egypt. For more information on the Sunshine project visit: www.sunshine-international.org.uk
